EXTENDER TECHNIQUE FOR THE SAXOPHONE J. MICHAEL LEONARD ARRANGEMENT: SAXOPHONE
In the world of modern saxophone performance (both classical and jazz), the advancement and use of extended techniques in both fields has given performers and composers a fresh new look into possibilities of sound color, thereby opening new roads of musica! expression. It Is hoped that this book shall serve the saxophonist as both a helpful guide, and more importantly, a future reference source towards his or her enrichment and know!edge of the saxophone's capabilities. This book does not pretend to be complete. It should only serve as a beginning to which the individuai may further explore the complexities inherent in extended saxophone technique. It must be remembered that not all of the fingerings within this volume will work on evemy type or make of saxophone Therefore, blank pages have been added after each section to facilitate the addition of any fingering combinations that may be familiar to you which are not included. By no means are some sections in this book intended for the saxophonist which has yet to form a solid foundation in the many aspects of wind performance (embouchure, breath support, ftexibiiity, etc.). lf one has not yet attained these crucial technical points with some degree of stability and consistency, only frustration can be expected within certain sections.
