Israel in Egypt (Israele in Egitto) In full score (Partitura) Handel George Frideric
One of Handel’s greatest oratorios, Israel in Egypt contains some of the composer’s most moving and exultant music, portraying the richly textured Biblical tale of the Hebrew tribes enslaved in ancient Egypt. Here are the famous events told and re-told: oppression under a relentless Pharaoh...the rise of the prophet Moses the great plagues and the parting of the Red Sea... and the ultimate salvation of the children of Israel.
Scored for six solo voices, double chorus and orchestra, “ ...lsrael in Egypt remains unique among Handel’s oratorios...the choruses are great music, and they offer a wide variety of mood and technique, ranging from grim intensity to tender humility; from simple narrative to grandiose jubilation...[they are] exceptional not only in Handel’s copious output, but in the entire choral literature” (from George Frideric Handel, Paul Henry Lang’s classic biography of the composer).
Reprinted from the authoritative Handel-Gesellschaft edition—including editor Friedrich Chrysander’s original preface of 1863, and all of the original vocal underlay in both English and German—this finely reproduced volume provides music lovers with a work lauded by Grove for its “unaffected style of monumental greatness.”
